It’s time for FAVE OF THE MONTH! This is where River and I share a book (or two, or twenty) that we considered our favourite read(s) of the month. July saw us finishing up Summer Contemporary Fling, as well as reading… a lot of contemporary outside of the event. I know, I know, we like our contemporary on this blog. Truthfully, summer just makes me want to read contemporary books, or a fat fantasy novel. I’m sure the urge for the latter will be coming soon. Let’s dive into the favourites!
What We Saw
by Aaron Hartzler (coming Sept. 22nd)
This book doesn’t release until mid-September, and yes we’ve already got a review coming for this one. Actually, we’re going to be having two reviews for this book, as I will be reviewing it as well once I complete it. The book is as going to be featured in a article I’ll be writing for the OLA’s Open Shelf Magazine (where one a month I teach folks about YA novels with tough topics!). River described this book to me as a punch — slow moving, but leaves a last bruise when you’re finished. It’s rough, it’s uncomfortable, it will make you physically feel ill. It definitely sounds like a book that would pair well with Courtney Summers’ All the Rage. Definitely check this one out when it releases, guys!
The Scorpion Rules by Erin Bow (coming Sept. 22nd), Don’t Fail Me Now by Una LaMarche (coming Sept. 1st), and Momo by Michael Ende
Normally, I can limit myself to one book (or two if there’s a serious contender) buuuuuuut… I couldn’t stop thinking about all three of these books when I finished them, meaning I couldn’t choose between them. Momo is a great children’s classic that I’ve talked about to death, but the other two… let’s just say we have reviews coming for both, and trust me when I say: they are releases you do not want to miss out on.
What was your favourite reads in July? Let us know in the comments, as we looooove to know what others are reading!
