#ARCAugust Week One Wrap Up!

ARC-August-2015

I love #ARCAugust. #ARCAugust is hosted by the amazing Octavia & Shelly @ Read. Sleep. Repeat and I swear they don’t know how much I love this little event that they run. I mentioned in a previous post that my TBR pile for this event was a tad over-ambitious, but honestly, after this first week I have made some awesome progress.

Total Read: 4/16

Favourite Read This Week: Afterward by Jennifer Mathieu. This book, just, ugh, feelings.

You’ll notice two more items were added to this list. That is because @SimonTeenCA sent me a few September ARCs, and now I definitely need to make sure they get reviewed. Here’s a pick fo what they sent me!

I am hoping to have as productive #ARCAugust, and we’ll see how I roll next week. Right now I am in the middle of Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Córdova, which I am enjoying very much. It’s definitely got a very different paranormal vibe to it which is keeping me hooked. As for the books I’ve recently finished, expect to see reviews of them on the blog very soon!

If you are particpating in #ARCAugust, how did your first week go? I’d love to know in the comments!

#ARCAugust is Upon Us!

ARC-August-2015

Once again I’ve decided I am participating in #ARCAugust, hosted by the amazing Octavia & Shelly @ Read. Sleep. Repeat. This is my third year participating in the event and I always find it to be a fun, productive way to knock out a large chunk of the ARCs I’ve recieved that are either Fall/Winter releases, or earlier releases I may have missed and need to review still.

Like always, I am going to be posting weekly updates to highlight my progress for the event. Some of the reviews you may see pretty early, others will be likely closer to their release dates in the Fall. Here’s what I am planning to tackle!

SO CLOSE. Well, not really, I actually ended up with two graphic novel ARCs from First Second, so I’m actually 11/10! Huge love to Read. Sleep. Repeat for running this fantastic event, as I always find it to be a great motivator to work through my ARCs, especially with how busy Fall can be. How many ARCs did you complete during ARC August? Let me know in the comments, I want to hear about your highs and lows during the month!

ARC August — Week 3 Wrap Up

ARC-August-2015

Week Three of ARC August hosted by @ Read. Sleep. Repeat. So this week was a bit of a slower week, mostly because I took a small break from ARCs to read one of my own books.

  • Violent Ends edited by Shaun David Hutchinson (September 1st)
  • Crenshaw by Katherine Applegate (September 22nd)
  • The Blackthorn Key by Kevin Sands (September 1st)
  • All Fall Down, by Ally Carter (Already Out)
  • Switch by Ingrid Law (September 1st)
  • Your Voice Is All I Hear by Leah Scheier (September 1st)
  • What We Saw by Aaron Hartzler (September 22nd)
  • Another Day (Every Day #2) by David Levithan (August 25th)
  • Lair of Dreams by Libba Bray (August 25th)
  • Stand-Off by Andrew Smith (September 8th)
  • A Sense if Infinite by Hillary T. Smith (Already Out)
  • Hello, Goodbye, and Everything In Between by Jennifer E. Smith (September 1st)

Number of ARCs read: 6/10

This week I managed to read Switch by Ingrid Law, which I thought was really cute. I think I would have loved it more had I read the other books in the series (this one was considered a companion to the first two books). [Insert other things here].

You’ll notice I added one more title to that list above, and that’s because I received a package from Hatchett Canada! Again, while I don’t think I’ll get to everything above, again I am going to see what I can get to in the coming weeks. The last update likely won’t be until the 31st of the month since that is the last day in August. Hopefully you enjoyed this week, and I hope by the 31st that I will have completed my goal of ten ARCs!

ARC August — Week 2 Wrap Up

ARC-August-2015

Week Two of ARC August hosted by @ Read. Sleep. Repeat. was quite successful if I do say so myself. It may also have helped that the Book-Tube-A-Thon is over and now my focus is strictly on ARCs (witht he odd personal read thrown in). My goal is to read ten out of the books I’ve listed below:

Number of ARCs read: 5/10

This week I only completed two more ARCs, which were Crenshaw and The Blackthorn Key (both which I highly recommend when they release!). I feel like I need to be picking up the pace, but I just finished David Levithan’s Another Day  and I think it’s slowed my pace down for reading ARCs… to the point where I may have binge read a few non-ARCs on the side. Yeah,  did not enjoy that one and you’ll see in the review.

Goal for week three is to try and have at least three more ARCs read, because I REALLY do want to make my goal of ten. We shall see how it goes though. 😦

ARC August — Week 1 Wrap Up

ARC-August-2015

Week One of ARC August hosted by @ Read. Sleep. Repeat. was an interesting attempt considering it was happening at the same time as the Book-tube-a-thon. My goal is to read ten out of the books I’ve listed below:

Number of ARCs read: 2/10

Not bad so far, and I’m currently in the middle of one as of writing this post, because in my Book-tube-a-thon TBR, I used three ARCs as picks in order to complete some of the challenges. I ended up reading All Fall Down by Ally Carter, which was an ARC I got back in January at the OLA Super Conference. Sad it took me this long to read it because it was a TON OF FUN (and you can see the review here). Then I read Violent Ends edited by Shaun David Hutchinson, which is… you know what? No spoilers on that one. Just go pick it up when it releases. I mean it. Our review here on the blog will appear a little later on in the month.

I hope to pick up the pace in the coming weeks. My goal is to really get a lot of these August and September titles DONE and ready to go. Wish me luck!

ARC August Announcement and Book-Tube-A-Thon TBR

ARC-August-2015

The return of ARC August hosted by @ Read. Sleep. Repeat. is back and I am definitely participating again. I found ARC August to be such a productive reading event, as it forced me to power-through a lot of ARCs that were coming due. And let’s be real: River and I do a lot of reviewing — we love it and we get quite a bit of books to read and review. Sometimes, however, we just want to read our own books. My goal for ARC August is try to read another ten ARCs, which is what I successfully managed. I think it’s do-able, especially because I have a lot of September and October books piling up in my cue, so I need to get on this. Here’s the ten ARCs I’d like to tackle during the month:

I realize this is more than ten. My goal is to read at least ten of these, but this is what is coming due soon in my Netgalley and physical ARC queues. Are there ones mentioned above that I must OMGRERADNAO?

I’ll be providing a weekly update on Fridays for the month of August. The updates will simply highlight what I read, what my goal for the week was and if I was successful. I’m not sure if River is going to be joining me in this, but if she is, the more the merrier!

Second, I’ll be participating in my second Book-Tube-A-Thon. I will not be tubing, because I don’t like my face in a camera, but I love this read-a-thon and its challenges. For those curious, it runs from August 3rd until the 9th. There’s seven challenges total, and these are the books I am planning to read for each challenge,

booktubeathon

1. Read a book with blue on the cover — The Blackthorn Key by Kevin Sands
2. Read a book by an author who shares the same first letter of your last name — Jump (a.k.a Twinmaker) by Sean Williams
3. Read someone else’s favourite book — The Girl Who Played Go by Shan Sa (which is a book Kiki lent to me that she really loved).
4. Read the last book you acquired — One Came Home by Amy Timberlake
5. Finish a book without letting go of it – From the Notebooks of Melanin Sun by Jacqueline Woodson
6. Read a book you really want to read —  Violent Ends edited by Shaun David Hutchinson
7. Read seven books — Crenshaw by Katherine Applegate

Do I think I can read all thsee books during the event? Well, I’m going to try. Thankfully I have a long commute on a train when I go to work, so I get a lot of reading done. If you’re curious about information for the event, check out the Official YouTube Channel. I’ll also be Tweeting which challenges I complete throughout the week, so watch out for that as well.

Are you participating in Book-tube-a-Thon or ARC August? Let me know in the comments, so I can cheer you on and check out your progress! 🙂
